About

This is a blog about an old man and his dog trying to find their way in a very angry and perplexing place, 21st Century America. If this blog fulfills its purpose it will provide some guidance and comfort in this increasingly dark century. That may seem unlikely but old men and dogs have done some remarkable things in history. Well actually I am not sure old men and dogs have really done all that much but maybe now is the time.

Bucky and I have a lot in common. We get up each day with wide open calendars. Having nothing you have to do is a great gift. We are not overcommitted and overtaxed like most Americans. That may be why we are not angry and why we hate no one (well almost no one). This also gives us time to listen to the silence and watch for the unexpected.

Let me get thinks started by introducing you to Bucky. He is an energetic and adorable French Bulldog (picture attached). His defining trait is thievery. He steals remote controls, pens, eyeglasses, shoes. socks, etc. In a nutshell he figures out what you care about and he steals it. This is all about compelling people to chase him. He lives for the chase.

He is impossible to catch. He is fast and imaginative. Just when you think you have him trapped he will crawl under a bed. People have run into tables, fallen over chairs and even broken a toe or two chasing him. And he is utterly without remorse about his conduct. In most respects he is pretty well behaved but not so when the chase begins. It is an endearing, maddening and defining trait. As you travel through life with him you need to be aware of your most important possessions.

So what guidance or inspiration does this introduction offer. To my mind it teaches you to be who you are. It may annoy and aggravate others but in the end they will never forget you.
